Internet Services Paid for by FCC

The Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program is a $3.2 billion program that was established by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to help households that are struggling to pay for home internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Hawaii’s EBB efforts are being led by the State of Hawaii’s Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism (DBEDT) and are a direct benefit to households.

EBB Program Benefits
Under the EBB program, eligible households can receive up to $50 per month towards home broadband service and up to $75 for households on Hawaiian Home Lands.  Eligible households may also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 towards the purchase of a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating Hawaii internet services providers.

Eligibility
Households where students are enrolled in schools that participate in the USDA Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program during school years 2019-2020, 2020-2021, or 2021-2022 are eligible to apply and receive EBB funding.

More Information
Households interested in applying or obtaining more information about the EBB program can go to the Hawaii EBB website at https://broadband.hawaii.gov/ebb/. Households interested in applying will need to provide documentation as proof of eligibility.  For households applying under the free and reduced-priced school lunch program or breakfast program eligibility, a copy of their approved program eligibility will need to be provided.

Questions may be directed to Steven Asaumi, Telecommunication Network Specialist, at steven.asaumi@k12.hi.us.
